Synopsis
Karsu (Ozge Ozpirincci) is a young mother of three children. She has had a challenging life since she was a teenager. Even though she does not have a happy marriage, she loves being a mother the most.
Karsu’s life turns upside down when she gives birth to her third child. While trying to find a balance among her children, she realizes that she can’t take care of all the children on her own. She asks a favor from her mother Filiz (Demet Akbag). She wants her mother to take care of her son for a while until she recovers from her birth.
Filiz is a strong and dominant woman. She cares about her physical appearance a lot and dresses younger than her age. She does not want to take responsibility for her grandson at first. But, she eventually accepts to take her grandson and go to Istanbul for a while.
The life of Karsu and Filiz changes all of a sudden. On the travel to Istanbul, Karsu’s son goes missing. Karsu blames her mother for being reckless. She never forgives her mother and breaks all ties with her mother. Filiz also never forgives herself but she doesn’t back down and ask for forgiveness.
3 years pass after this tragedy. Karsu never accepts her son’s disappearance. She never loses her hope even though everyone gives up searching for him. Karsu thinks about her son every time and for this reason, she sometimes neglects her other two children.
Karsu’s marriage also becomes worse. Her husband Reha (Necip Memili) cannot stand for Karsu’s unhappiness. He develops a love affair with Hande (Ece Irtem).
Out of pure coincidence, Karsu finds her son when she goes to a nearby city. After three years of searching, she is relieved to be reunited with her son. She tries to fight to win her son back because her son has been raised by another man.
Karsu thinks that her life will be in order again. She thinks that she will live happily with her three children. She eventually finds peace. She smiles again and wears beautiful clothes.
Karsu finds out about her husband’s betrayal while she is trying to recover from her sufferings. She cannot accept this betrayal and leaves everything behind. She returns to her estranged mother’s home in Istanbul with her three children.
Karsu starts to live together with her mother Filiz. Even though they have not been speaking for three years, they start to share the same house. Karsu tries to improve her relationship with her mother, build a new life, and gain the trust of her son and her daughters. While she breaks free from past burdens, she does her best to survive. Meanwhile, she gets support from her neighbor Atilla (Metin Akdulger).
Atilla is a young man who lives next to Filiz’s house. He is a reclusive writer who tries to finish his new novel. He is calm and clumsy. He becomes a good friend of Karsu and supports her in all respects.
I am Mother (Sandik Kokusu) tv series story is about a young woman who builds a new life together with her three children. Will Karsu forgive her mother? Will Karsu manage to divorce from her husband Reha? Will Karsu find peace after finding her son?
